Spring 2020 - Took English 4W with Bethany in Spring 2020 (online due to COVID-19). I'm a math major and I despise writing but Bethany definitely made it loads of fun. Lectures were half slides describing topics relating to readings and half discussions among the students concerning the readings. Those discussions were quite engaging as Bethany gave us free reign to discuss all sorts of topics. The assignments and projects were time-consuming but not onerous. Essays were graded fairly and Bethany gave ample feedback. She's also an affable person and pretty down-to-earth! Would definitely recommend taking a class with her.

Fall 2019 - Overall, I enjoyed my experience with this instructor! She was super helpful and approachable; I would definitely recommend going to office hours to get feedback on your essays. She provides very helpful constructive criticism. This class has a manageable workload with 1 reading response per week and three major essays in place of in-class exams. We went through a decent amount of short books and poem analysis. In my experience, she's a slightly more difficult grader than what I'm used to but all her feedback is thoughtful and genuine. The class may be a little dry at times, but participation matters, so make sure to speak up during discussion. I took this class to satisfy my Writing II requirement as a STEM major. All in all a do-able class to knock out your Writing II and improve your literary skills.

Winter 2022 - Prof Lee is a super nice professor but a really strict grader!! I have never had essays graded as harshly as her, although it seems that the final grade is quite a bit higher than my essay average thank god. Office hours are very helpful though, it really helps to go over her requirements on how to structure essays. Also, do the extra credit (reading a poem of your choice = +1 to final grade). She's also super flexible with deadlines and willing to give extensions. All in all I feel like even though she's very demanding, I walked away from the class learning a lot about how to actually improve my writing skills in terms of how the essay should be structured. Her slides are also very nicely organized and she provides many helpful resources/exercises.
