Winter 2025 - I LOVED this class! I was introduced to one of my (now) favorite books, Noopiming. We also read an equally compelling novel called Monkey Beach. This class was such a good introduction into Indigenous fiction, this idea of a wonderwork, and fantasy and science fiction as a form of anti-colonial resistance. Assignments-wise, there are 2 reading response essays (1,00 words, more casual). I would recommend getting these done in the first half of the quarter – doing that made this class feel like a breeze. Then, there are a midterm paper and a final paper, both of which are research/synthesis essays with the texts read in class. The grading seemed fair, and the assignments were interesting. Classes are not required and not recorded. Slides are not posted. However, there is a hybrid option for lectures (which was so nice, accessibility-wise). If you attend lecture and keep up with the readings, this class is so worthwhile.
