Spring 2019 - I really had high expectations for this class. The description and the title were all so interesting to me. He lectures straight for 2 hours based on a few bullet points on a piece of paper that’s really hard to keep notes on. Almost all of these things he says in his pathetic little notes are on the midterm. He doesn’t tolerate perspectives and ideas that are different from his and is incredibly unhelpful in office hours. He wants you to abide by his specific way of writing which includes putting in quotes in the introduction paragraph from the text and writing the essay “backwards.” That’s literally all he recommends during office hours. The midterm taken on week 3 wasn’t given until past week 8. And he doesn’t give any explanation on why you got the questions wrong and etc. He has the stupid media project and some participation questions online which he’ll probably grade pretty hard as well. I think it’s because he’s just an adjunct lecturer and not a full time professor. I’m so glad he’s leaving UCLA. Super pretentious and his text selection is so freaking boring. Take another class to fulfill the diversity requirement. This ain’t it.

Fall 2017 - I took professor Solomon for 109 and he is such a great professor that engages the class in meaningful discussion. Every class there is a 1-2 page reflection on the readings due and he had a final 10-12 page paper. Overall, I loved the readings, the class discussions, and Prof Solomon was very approachable, would recommend him and other classes with him.
