Fall 2019 - Professor Kipen himself is an interesting character....he refuses to give students A's right away and is a great criticizer. At the end of the day he looks for growth in students writings. Only thing I did not like was his very vague comments on how to better prepare for essays. For example I would ask "How can I make sure my essay doesn't seem too opinionated? How can I equally spread out my opinion, evidence, facts, etc?" and he would respond "Well that is tough, but keep in my mind opinion in an essay is necessary and important but refrain from using too much or it will take over the entire thing, just make sure to add enough evidence." Like SIR you did NOT answer my question.

Winter 2023 - Professor Lisovsky is probably the best english teacher I've had; he paces the class well and explains concepts very clearly. He gives out a fair amount of reading and homework, but they are completely manageable and graded on completion. There are four essays we have to write every quarter which are based off of topics discussed in class and in the readings. Aside from the last essay, all essays can be reviewed as many times as necessary. If you want a good grade, GO TO OFFICE HOURS and have him review your essay. Most of my essays started at around the high 80s, but after multiple reviews, they turned into 95s, which is the maximum score he gives out. His two midterms are pretty straightforward and are pretty much a copy of his practice midterms. As long as you go to his midterm review sessions, the midterm shouldn't be too much of a challenge. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to get better at English. If you are willing to put the effort in, it isn't hard to get an A.

I am selling REREADING AMERICA (9TH) for 40 bucks (I had some marks on it, but surely it will not bother your reading. Complimented with A WRITER'S REFERENCE (6TH). its not the seventh and is quite old, but totally would work. and IT IS FREE. text ********** if you are interested.

Three papers; all relatively short. A few journal entries. Readings were easy. Her appointments however are something else. You dread knowing she'll have something nonconstructive or sardonic to say. She means well, though. Prof. Mano when you try in class, and she makes it that much easier for you if you do. She's a nice person, just really, really, really blunt.
