I personally did not like her class at all! It was terrible mistake, the class was more like a history lesson than a writing class, above all I thought her comments that she gave for my papers were so so vague.. Never have i heard the word "good" or see it on any of my papers. Don't get me wrong, i'm not a bad writer.. Having been a sociology major at UCLA i had to write tons of papers and I did well in all of them, but getting at A with her seemed far far away from possible. I have never written a review and considering I took her class in 2007, I really felt the urge to tell people that they should know what they are getting into.

She prefered us to call her Shelby during class which i still had trouble with till today, but Professor Popham is a very helpful and thoughtful teacher. Our class got us prepared for writing our thesis paper at the very end. Although she does have many assignments she gives out along with reading notes and reflections after each class, the busy work is to get us writing constantly. The assignments you take home are vey useful later for other classes like apa formating and mla, annotated bibliographies and abstracts for thesis. She has very entertaining stories to tell in class that always make me laugh and inspired to write. I recommend Popham. You can revise as many times as you like and she always responds with either recommended or required revision. Great class, fun, and educational!

Summer 2021 - I took this class in the Transfer Summer Program Summer 2021. The class was "Writing the Sick Body in Literature, Art, & Film—A Course in Medical Humanities" Grading: 20% Personal Essay: 2-3 pages 25% Research Notebook 30% Research Paper: 7-8 pages 25% Participation Prof. Drissi gives great feedback and wants you to do well. I believe the average grade for the personal essay was an A-. The research notebook was all effort-based. The research paper was very independent but she was more than willing to give guidance if you asked for it. She was VERY understanding of my personal circumstances and struggles and was willing to accommodate me in every way. She is a kind-hearted individual who wants you to do well. I wholeheartedly recommend her as a professor.

Summer 2020 - I took Dr. Sanchez Lopez’s State Violence and Social Movements in the Americas course through the Transfer Summer Program (TSP) when it was online. The course grade consisted of an argument analysis, annotated bibliography related to the research, and the research paper itself. Attendance and participation, as well as PLF sessions, were also part of the grade. I found the argument analysis to be a thought-provoking assignment because the reading was on an interesting topic. The annotated bibliography could be tedious, but with more clarification and instruction from my PLF, Nia, it was more manageable. The research paper was a lot of work, but a great introduction to archival research. If you choose a topic that interests you, it can be a really insightful project. As for class meetings, they were short if not useful. During the first half of the session, class time was meant to be used for discussing our assigned readings, but after the second half, the readings were canceled so that we could focus on our research papers. We were also required to attend quick office hours with Dr. Sanchez Lopez to answer any questions. My PLF was also extremely helpful for the research paper, and she really motivated me and affirmed my topic. In addition, I was going through a difficult time very early in the program, and Dr. Sanchez Lopez was very accommodating when that was communicated to him. Overall, he is a relaxed, easy-going, and caring professor, and it was not too difficult to get an A.
