Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Requisites: Chemistry 14A, 14B, 14BL, 14C, 14CL, and 14D, or 20A, 20B, 20L, 30A, 30AL, 30B, and 30BL, Life Sciences 1, 2, 3, 23L. Chemical signals are most important means by which organisms communicate. Exploration of how chemical signals are produced, transported, and influence behavior of microbes, plants, and animals. Synthetic approach, with emphasis on applications to cell biology, physiology, and ecology. P/NP or letter grading.
