Theories and Methods in Dance Composition II: Processes
Description: Seminar, two hours; studio, two hours; outside study, eight hours. Enforced requisite: course 67A. Examination of diverse processes through which creation of dance can take place. How do different choreographers conceptualize creative process of dance-making? What kinds of strategies do they use for sequencing their materials? Answers to these questions in relation to broad range of artistic approaches, acknowledging that dance-making occurs distinctively in different cultural contexts and different historical moments. Readings about and viewing of videos of selected artists' work and their different strategies for their processes of creating dances for comparison. Use of these analyses to assist in creative process for making new dances. P/NP or letter grading.
