Fall 2024 - I really enjoyed this class. It's an excellent opportunity to come up with your own research study and conduct it with a group of peers with relatively little oversight from faculty. However, THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY TIME CONSUMING CLASS. It may be one unit but don't be fooled, my group spent 4-5 hours a day conducting our research trials. If you hate group projects, don't take this class. When I took it last quarter, one of my group members and I essentially did the entire study ourselves which cut the other two members a lot of slack. Despite that, those two members still earned Bs. Keep in mind that the group research report and oral report are the only two tangible elements of your project that Suman is able to grade. If you don't spend a lot of time on them (which we did not) you will not get the grade you hoped for. Also, if your group members are flakes, write it in the individual group dynamics report and talk to Suman about it. That helped a little bit but remember: it is still a group project -- one bad apple will drag the whole group down. If you want to avoid that risk, don't take the class.
