Description: Seminar, three hours. Preparation: knowledge of one appropriate foreign language. Designed for graduate students. Investigation of intertextual relations between writing and photography in American and European contexts. Study rests on premise that photograph enters public domain framed by writing and discourse and that, in turn, some forms of writing are framed by photographic modes of representation. S/U or letter grading.
