Professor Reiff was very kind and you could tell that she knew what she was talking about. Her lectures can be a little boring and often seem to just be stories with not real point. Other than that though she was nice and after one lecture where she showed clips from "Dragnet" she let me borrow the DVD simply because I said that it looked interesting (I watched it and it actually was). I never went to office hours but she was very open when I sought her out before or after class. I took the class because I wanted to know more about Los Angeles, the actual class itself was a little harder than expected. The readings were very dense and uninteresting which made them hard to read. Do the readings though, they're very important! Your grade really does depends on your TA, you have to figure out what is important to your TA and their style because they grade all of your work and the final. The problem is more the way the class is structure than the actual professors. Some of the assignment were poorly and vaguely explained which left a lot of room for any interpretation and ultimately failure if not done the way your TA wanted it. There was a lot of inconsistencies in the grading between TA's. Overall the class was not too bad but if they do the class in the future hopefully they structure it better.

Fall 2016 - You don't have to necessarily go to lecture, but it can be helpful sometimes. Going to discussion is what is mandatory and will ultimately determine your grade. It is a lot of reading. There is no midterm., but there is a final. Overall, it is one of the easier clusters that UCLA offers.
