Spring 2021 - Teacher Esther was so funny! She lightened up the zoom atmosphere with her humor. Being on zoom for 2 hours and 50 minutes is so oppressive and you really feel it in this class. It just does not need to be this long. One thing that bugged me about the course was that it felt like that there wasn't a lot of direction for the course topic. It was about graphic narratives but also about transitional justice, but only some of the books we read were about transitional justice. Occasionally Esther would assign a reading that was either too damn long or too damn complicated. What was nice about that is no one did the readings for the last week. Esther's questions for the class discussion were usually more complicated and less compelling than that of the student-led class discussions, but nonetheless I have a great affection for Esther and her love for comics.

Fall 2021 - Steve is one of the best teachers I've had at UCLA. He is really great at facilitating discussions and allowed them to be mostly student let, however, will chime in if we need some more points to build off of. He isn't the harshest grader, but doesn't just hand out As. He will often accommodate you as long at your request isn't outrageous and gives a ton of help during office ours.
