Molecular Biotechnology for Engineers
Description: (Same as Chemical Engineering CM145.) Lecture, four hours; discussion, one hour; outside study, seven hours. Enforced requisites: Life Sciences 3, 23L. Selected topics in molecular biology that form foundation of biotechnology and biomedical industry today. Topics include recombinant DNA technology, molecular research tools, manipulation of gene expression, directed mutagenesis and protein engineering, DNA-based diagnostics and DNA microarrays, antibody and protein-based diagnostics, genomics and bioinformatics, isolation of human genes, gene therapy, and tissue engineering. Concurrently scheduled with course CM245. Letter grading.

Fall 2022 - One of the most interesting bioengineering electives out there. The one major annoyance was the homework, which was summarizing a paper and drawing a figure for it. Waste of time and did not help you learn the information and prepare you for tests. Still worth taking.
