Modernism and Its Discontents
Description: Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour; field trips, three hours. Art majors should complete courses 31A, 31B, and 31C in sequence in first year. Continued impact of modernist ideas from 1960s to present, covering shift from modernist to postmodernist practices and theories. Examination of critiques of modernism drawing from emancipatory movements and poststructuralist, feminist, queer, performance, postcolonial, and critical race theory. Letter grading.

Spring 2018 - people who think this is an easy GE, it is not. For three hours, he just keeps talking, but you have to write down every point he says. FOR 2.5 HOURS! there is no note on the lecture. Only pictures. Also, you gotta read a lot. Just don't take this for people who are considering this as their GE.
