Integrative Methods in Study of Gender, Sexuality, and Culture

Description: Seminar, one hour. Exploration of human expressions of gender and sexuality. Examination of complexities surrounding gendered systems and cultural influences on identity and performance through cultural contexts and integrative methodologies from anthropological subfields (biological, sociocultural, linguistic, and archaeological). Exploration of how primatology can be used to draw parallels in expressions of sexuality in non-human primates. Analysis of sociocultural research methods to facilitate an understanding of cross-cultural analysis, and variations in gendered systems and social norms regarding gender expression and identity.
